AMPHIBIANS

Frogs, toads, salamanders, and newts are called sentinel species because they are indicators of a healthy environment. Since amphibians absorb oxygen and water through their skin, their presence in freshwater marshes serves as one of nature’s guards.

They are adapted to a wet area with the ability to limit activity to nighttime or rainy weather. While they were once the dominant land animals on earth, they are now the most threatened.
