JB Hewette has been involved in Scouting since Fall of 2014 and has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout with Troop 417. Through his time in Scouting, JB has experienced many adventures that have developed his outdoor and life skills, and has learned more about nature, leadership, and himself. Planning and backpacking for a week or more on the Appalachian Trail and Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico are some of the experiences JB has enjoyed most. Ever mindful of others and the outdoors, JB naturally chose to update and replace the defunct orienteering course at Shoreline Park for his Eagle Scout project.

While partnering with the City of Gulf Breeze, JB integrated new markers within new city projects that were built over the previous orienteering course. Roughly half of the 31 markers were replaced and all were repainted with a QR code included that will take you to the City of Gulf Breeze website with instructions for the course. JB created a pace calculator, updated locations for markers with headings, distance and latitude and longitude positions. Additionally, new signage was created to allow for easy use and identification of the new course.
